Chrysalis: "Is this working? I've like never done this before, def not tech savvy."
We get a split screen of two of TWC's newest signed talents, Christina Jade, better known as Chrysalis and Kieron Mitchell. Both are in their respective residences at home due to what's going on in the world.
Chrysalis is wearing a 'white dudes love black girls' t-shirt and her hair is pulled into a long ponytail as she adjusts her camera, looking a bit confused.
Chrysalis: "We good, right?"
Kieron adjusted the screen of his laptop to bring him into view. He was wearing a plain black t-shirt with his typical neatly combed hairstyle. He looked into the screen and offered Chrysalis a smile before nodding his head.
Kieron: "Yeah, you're coming in loud and clear."
He told her as he leaned back into the high backed chair for a little more comfort.
Chrysalis: "Bet, bet! Okay so what's good world? Obviously with all of this crazy ish going on in the world, we ain't got nothing to do, so I reached out to people and this is the only one to respond to me! Does that mean everyone else in TWC hates me or something?"
Sticking her tongue out playfully, she continues.
Chrysalis: "I'm Chrysalis, and I'm chillin in my apartment in Brooklyn for those that don't know me, and tell the world who you are and where you're staying right now."
Kieron: "Must be saying something.."
Kieron said in response to the obviously rhetorical question with a soft shrug.
Kieron: "Well, I'm Kieron Mitchell, or KJ, or that guy over there. Whatever is easiest for you. Right now I'm on what feels like day 900 of this lockdown here in Washington. Finalizing some plans to pack up the car and head east for what will hopefully be a long term move for TWC."
Chrysalis: "Yeah I remember you asking for a hookup on a place, but as you can see I haven't even upgraded yet. That's coming soon though."
She spins the camera around a bit to show off the modest, to admittedly cheap apartment.
Chrysalis: "Before wrestling, I did what I had to do to make ends meet. I won't run from my past or anything like that, but we all evolve over time. Which is why I chose the name Chrysalis when I finally got signed. It's been two long years of training but it's finally here."
She holds up a finger.
Chrysalis: "Gimme a hot sec."
She stands up and walks off camera, leaving Kieron to whistle and look around a bit before she sits back down with a Sprite 20 oz.
Chrysalis: "I feel like everyone is about to be thirsty watching this, so I had to grab the Sprite you know?"
She laughs and holds the bottle up for emphasis.
Chrysalis: "Okay, but lets get to know a lil about each other since we're both in this tournament. I know you're not looking forward to facing me, that's obvs, but you're from Washington? What's it like over there and how did you end up in TWC?"
After the few awkward faces Kieron made for the camera he was able to get himself focused again by the time Chrysalis sat back down.
Kieron: "There isn't much to talk about with me before wrestling. I guess it's kind of something I was always into. As a kid I would watch as much of it as I could on TV, or the few times I could convince someone to take me out to a live event."
He said. He thought for a few seconds before returning to the subject.
Kieron: "If you would've asked 10 year old me I woulda been a twelve time champion by now."
He said. Obviously that didn't happen, yet. But he was at least on the path now.
Kieron: "So other than that I was born and raised in Washington. We bounced around a bit as a kid. Dad was always chasing the money. Eventually we landed here in Washington and I wasn't living out of cardboard boxes anymore."
He said as he remembered that he had started to pack up his whole life a few days ago and the room behind him was filled with the previously stated cardboard boxes.
Kieron: "As far as how I ended up in TCW. Well, I guess it was you in a way. I had been looking for a place to make a debut for a few weeks. Made a few posts on the Twitter machine. I guess you caught one of them and brought up TWC."
Kieron pulled his phone out of his pocket to fact check himself before returning his attention to the webcam.
Kieron: "Pretty confident you are there. That's a good quality to have when competing. Have you always had a confidence like this in yourself, or is this something that you worked on?"
Chrysalis: "Oh yeah you're right, it was def me that told you to check out TWC. I feel like I should get a bonus check or something. I also told Bruce and Jan to come fight me."
She looks straight into the camera.
Chrysalis: "So you out there, Mister moneybags at TWC, hook me up with a bonus. I deserve it."
She picks the Sprite up and takes a sip before putting the cap back on.
Chrysalis: "Ten year old you was even more confident than me, dang! But the confidence comes naturally. I've been fighting most of my life. My dad was ghost from the moment I was born, mom was always working or into something to keep a roof over our head, so I grew up on the streets mostly. Got my ass beat a lot by a few of the boys, so when I turned 20 I decided to train so that I could kick theirs for a paycheck."
"I think what really gave me the confidence I have now though is what I used to do. I used to dance. The minute I turned 18 I hit the clubs and was a fixture around NY nightlife for the next two-three years. Trust me, if you can dance in front of rappers, execs, sports team owners, pimps, you name it....that confidence just kinda comes with it all."
Kieron: "More competition equals more money. So in the long run you probably did get yourself a bonus check or two."
He told her.
Kieron: "Will TWC be your first venture into fighting professionally? Or do you have some experience prior?"
Kieron asked. Knowing full well the difference between street fighting and fighting for a career.
Kieron: "You have the confidence part down, which is key. But stepping into a ring, cage, or whatever type of enclosure the powers that be decide on are a lot different than squaring up on the streets, but that I'm sure you know or at least have heard all about."
Chrysalis: "This is my first pro fight type of stuff, but yeah I already know I can hold my own. Not gonna lie though, the girl I'm going against in the first round? She didn't lose a match at all in 2019. PERIODT!
She flips her ponytail and pops her lips.
Chrysalis: "So I already know this is finna be a lot diff than the stuff in the hood. Here we just take the earrings out, put the hair up and go, but there are techniques and rules and everything in the ring, so I'm ready. I've been training for two years, this wasn't something I rushed into, you feel me?"
She picks up her phone and scrolls over something.
Chrysalis: "You're facing Jan van der Roost in the first round. He's one of the oldest people in the wrestling game and you're pretty much fresh out the box, brand new. You think you can hang with him, or are you nervous?"
Kieron: "You can't really judge someone by what they did. Maybe she didn't lose because she hasn't faced YOU yet? Who knows. It's all about having a better night than your opponent."
He said. Aiding her confidence a bit.
Kieron: "Training is definitely key. But sometimes taking the earrings out and throwing the hair up is something that you need."
There was a slight shrug. He listened to her mention Jan and smiled.
Kieron: "Everyone is always nervous when they step into a fight. If they say they aren't they're lying. It comes with the territory. I'm pretty excited to start off against someone who's well known. Someone who's been around the block a time or two. Allows me to really test out everything I've been working on.
Worst thing to have happen is step up against someone who talks a big game but crumbles under the pressure, or the first time someone hits them"
Chrysalis: "Look, someone else asking these questions might let you skate with a politically correct answer like that, but you're talking to Christina Jade. I'm not about skating, I want you cracking that ice and spillin' the tea."
She laughs and leans closer to her camera.
Chrysalis: "You might have gotten the toughest draw of the first round, and that's all you gotta say? Come on KJ, don't play me like that!"
Kieron: "I guess..."
He said as he sat back and thought out his response for a few seconds.
Kieron: "I guess I'm just not really one to buy into the hype. Just because someone has been around forever doesn't necessarily mean they have all the tools."
He reminded her.
Kieron: "Is this where you want me to enter into some rant about how time has passed him by? He had his moment in the sun? The whole sport has changed? Yeah. It's done all of those things."
"But for me I guess I prefer to do my talking once the bell rings. Talk might get a few eyes on you, but the violence, the victory is what will get the glory."
Kieron said. He knew the concept of match hype. He had been living that since he was a wrestler in high school.
Kieron: "If he's as good as you say he is then it was almost guaranteed we would've met at some point in the tournament. Might as well get it out of the way on night one."
Chrysalis: "Rumor has it he killed a guy in the ring way back in the day. Freak accident, but apparently it happened and I'm not even joking around!"
She looks ahead as Kieron nods, but he seems to have said his piece on his first round opponent.
Chrysalis: "This has been chill though, I feel like while we're all locked in our houses and waiting for things to get back to normal, maybe we should do this again? Maybe once a week, or every other week. And we can talk about different things. One week can be wrestling, the next can be music, and then...who knows. But it's been cool getting to talk. Was there anything else you wanted to tell everyone who might be watching? Whats your social media?"
Kieron: "Bring it..."
He said in response to her first statement.
Kieron: "Yeah, it's been a fun way to start promoting a bit. Definitely gives us the chance to get our name out there a bit."
"I'm down for anything to help pass the time. Was starting to go a bit stir crazy there. Need to get back to some sense of normalcy here in life."
Kieron told her.
Kieron: "You can find me @kjmitchell_ on Twitter. I'm there usually doing something I probably shouldn't be. But hey I'm young and I'm bored."
Chrysalis: "I'm young and bored too...hit me up at @evolveordeath on Twitter."
She pops her lips playfully and flips that ponytail again.
Chrysalis: "We'll come up with a fancy name for the next show, but until then stay safe and stay chasing the bag!"
She throws up the peace sign as KJ mimics and does the same before they both cut off their connection.
