The feed opens to Christina Jade aka Chrysalis who this time was wearing another famous shirt to make a statement as she’s been doing for each podcast so far. Her black t-shirt said ‘I’m not mad, just cray’ in bold pink lettering as she pulls the snapback from her head and plays around with her hair.
Chrysalis: What’s good again? This is episode three of Talk That Talk and this time my co-host is back, at least I think.
She leans forward and tries to figure out what she’s doing as Kieron Mitchell’s face pops up via split screen on the Skype call.
Chrysalis: Okay there he is. For those unfamiliar, KJ just moved to NY and we’re supposed to actually link up and get a little workout in soon to prepare to take on these old heads and crazies, but today he’s in his own lil hotel room. What’s up KJ?
Kieron was leaned back against the headboard of the bed. A grey hoodie pulled up over his head. He nodded his head as Chrysalis introduced him to the viewers.
Kieron: What's up Chrys, world. Right now I'm just working on getting myself used to the time difference between the east and west coast. Feeling a little jetlagged at the moment.
Kieron offered a shrug to his webcam as he pulled the hood a little tighter.
Kieron: But it's life. I'll get through this. I don't want to steal your thunder here Chrys, but today we have a pretty exciting guest that's going to be joining us. Going to do a little no holds barred style of roundtable. Let the world know what the guest really thinks about life, TWC, and everything in between.
You're a little more versed with the hype so why don't you introduce our guest, Chrys.
Chrysalis leans forward once more and plays around with something as another window appears on the screen as well. There’s a slice of a wall and part of a chair. A little bit of muffled cursing follows before the view tilts and Bruce McLeod appears in frame. Christina waves at him with a smile on her youthful face.
Chrysalis: Hey boo, HEYYYYY!
As the three of them laugh at Chrys’ exaggerated welcome, Bruce seems to settle in.
Chrysalis: Okay, so if I’m keepin’ it real, today’s guest is not only one of the favorites to win the entire tournament to crown the first champion in TWC, but he’s also been doing this for over twenty years. Bruce, welcome to the show...around here we TALK THAT TALK, no censoring, no being politically correct, you just say whatever comes to mind. So what’s up? How are you feeling? Tell the world who might be unfamiliar a lil about yourself.
The silver-haired Scot chuckles and sucks his teeth for a moment, one dark brow lifting as he considers the questions.
Bruce: Feelin’ fair tae middlin’ today, luv. A bit of a holding pattern with that big tournament hangin’ overhead for tomorrow. Ironic, I suppose...signed up for the thing to represent a dead company as I had no other prospects, only tae end up repping a company I’ve already grown fondness for.
He flashes that cheeky smirk.
Bruce: Suppose that’s part an’ parcel with all of this though, isn’t it? The hype. The talk… always been a fan of a little jaw-jackin’, as long as it’s not a distraction from what really matters. Aw...fuck. Haven’t answered that last part at all, have I? Hello...whomever’s watchin’ this out there in the Internets. Name’s Bruce McLeod. Been a fighter, pro wrestler or what have ya for the last twenty-some years. Mebbe someday soon I’ll have somethin’ shiny tae show for it.
Kieron nodded along as Bruce spoke. He could learn a lot listening to the veteran.
Kieron: So with all the hype around the show, and the back and forths you've been seeing who do you think poses the biggest threat to you reaching the finals of the tournament? Is there someone you want to face early on to get them out of the way? Or are you looking to take it all in stride?
Bruce: First round is the random pairings. Confident in my partner. She’s been makin’ waves in a few places for the last year. Reminds me a little of you, Chryssy. Little rough around the edges, but a sheer joy tae watch in the ring. We’ll take that round with ease. Then I’ve gotta face her one-on-one. Takin’ the war tae the War Queen Leah.
That smirk of his widens as he lets out another amused chuckle.
Bruce: Make it past her, it’s the last four standing from each of the other brackets. My dream? Facin’ our fellow veteran The Rooster an’ Treats the Clown. That’d be my dream final. The other person… doesn’t matter. Wildcard, whatever. Just wanna get my hands on those other two. Have a nice little warm-up, ready these old bones for our upcoming launch. But… enough about tha’. Been watchin’ this little war of words between you an’ Miss Thing King for the last couple weeks. Already gettin’ a little heated this far out, you think that’s wise strategy tae poke the hornet’s nest, luv?
Chrysalis: Honestly I feel like I got one of the hardest first round opponents. Nothing but respect to both of you, but Ms.King wants it. She’s already bringing the entire Madclan with her, and she wants to break my jaw. I know she feels the pressure, having a hot 2019, and a lukewarm 2020, so she’s gonna go all out. The thing is, I’m brand new so nobody knows what I’m capable of. I def see myself as a wildcard, and I think I’m gonna surprise a lot of people when I knock Christina King out in round one.
Ever confident, she rolls her neck as she says the last part, showing that she has the sass and confidence needed to not only be successful, but to bring all eyes to her.
Chrysalis: Like the shirt says, she might be mad, but I’m CRAY. I know how important this match is, especially after all that trash talk so I’m def gonna get it. But this show is about TALKING THAT TALK and putting our guests on the spot, so since you brought it up...who you picking, Bruce? Me or Christina?
Chrysalis looks straight at her screen to see the reaction on the veteran’s face as Kieron was smirking, not surprised that the fiery young rookie would put Bruce on the spot. Bruce throws his head back and laughs at the audacity, almost as though he was expecting it.
Bruce: Smart money is on the woman who claims tae be undefeated for a whole fuckin’ year. Not that I give a rat’s arse tae check, mind…
He shrugs.
Bruce: Am a fan of the underdog story, as am sure ya well know. I wanna see the upset. Wanna see you pull this off. Yer my pick, Chryssy. Now don’t be letting me down. How about you, Kee? You think she can do it? You think yeh can pull out an upset of yer own?
Kieron offered a smile to Bruce. Knowing full well what this would do for Chrys confidence going into the tournament.
Kieron: Honestly, I think she has as good a chance as anyone to move on in the tournament. Then again she doesn't have to face me right away so of course she has a good shot at the second round.
Kieron shot a wink towards Chrysalis before he returned his focus back to his webcam.
Kieron: I think the tournament has a good chance to not only put TWC on the map, but to also put a lot of other companies out there on notice that we aren't just going to sit back and let things happen.
Kieron knew that TWC was fairly new, and was going to be up against some stuff competition. Especially with the market they were going to be in.
Kieron: Being in NYC and pretty much one of the central hubs of the USA there's going to be a lot of faces in the door. A lot of names. At the end of the day what it's going to come down to for people like Chrys and I is just to stand up, and get in our opponents face. Test their jaw. Test their skill.
From what I see the focus from most of the roster is there. Hell, we've only had to wait for what seems like forever to get this started. So we should be focused.
Chrysalis: Ya’ll are too kind. Both picking the QUEEN over Ms.King!
With her confidence at an all time high, she turns her attention back to their guest.
Chrysalis: But back to the silver fox for a hot sec. You debuted in 1998, which makes your career older than me and Kieron maybe. But with all of those years, all those matches, what stands out to you as your favorite moment? Not your greatest accomplishment, we can wiki that...spill the tea on what you love as far as a career moment?
Bruce: Jesus…
He mutters and then pauses to consider the question.
Bruce: October, last year. First show for Chasing Glory Wrestling… this little upstart from Canada. The whole damned roster in a battle royale free-for-all for seeding in the championship picture. Final eight make it into the tournament tae crown their very first champion. Think there were thirteen or fourteen of us in the damned thing. Nice little cash purse on the line as well for the winner. I didn’t expect much, not against all these young upstarts like Clarissa Claire and Cole Gregory… am sure ye’ve heard those names before. Legacy kids. Second generations…
The scarred Scot looks wistful at the memory.
Bruce: Came down to those two and me, final three. Managed tae keep cool, managed tae eliminate them both. Walked out of that place $15,000 richer, with the top seed in the tournament. That… was one of the best nights of my whole damn career. Wasn’t about the win. Wasn’t about the money. Was the fact that I went in there against some of the best, the brightest in this business… least 15-20 years their senior an’ I did the unthinkable: came out on top.
Chrysalis: I remember watching that actually. I was trying to get noticed to get a contract offer from CGW. Such a dope place that I wish was still around. But this wouldn’t be fun if I didn’t put my co-host on the spot too.
Christina puts a manicured finger on her chin as she watches Kieron nod, awaiting the question.
Chrysalis: Let’s say you make it to the finals, Ki...and you are facing the winner of me and Bruce. Who do you think ends up being your opponent in the finals?
Kieron offered a slight shrug of his shoulders as he thought about his response for a few moments.
Kieron: If it came down to you and Bruce in the semi… hmm this is a pretty tough question to answer. I thought we were supposed to be putting Bruce on the spot here today?
Kieron asked with a questioning look on his face.
Kieron: Honestly, I've seen Bruce in action. So I know that he has the skill to take the whole thing. Even if he doesn't always believe it himself. But on the other hand I know how determined you are to win the whole thing, Chrys. I guess best case scenario for me is that you two do meet one another in the semis let you two beat up on one another so you come into the match with me softened up a bit.
Kieron winked at the camera after finishing his little dodging of the question.
Kieron: What about you Brucie? Do you think you have that it takes to come out with the W against Chrys and I? I know you've done it before, but we're out for blood.
Cocking his head and considering the question, Bruce lifts one hand to stroke over his goatee, almost absently.
Bruce: Do I have what it takes? Oh, aye. Would say so. Do I think you two are destined for greatness, even without the trappings of gold? Again… aye. Definitely do. Had that moment of glory in my grasp in CGW, let a personal vendetta get me all twisted up. Let it slip through my fingers… best believe that won’t happen again here. Unlike some in this business, I learn from mistakes.
Much like Kieron before him, Bruce is clearly dodging a straight answer to the question.
Bruce: There’s no way to truly predict the outcome of any of this. Everyone can have a bad day. All it takes are three seconds for it tae all come crashing down. Ye ken? It’s precarious. Would I like tae face one of you two? Absolutely. Would I like tae hand our girl here her very first loss? Oh, aye. Very much so. Only so much we can control though… that’s our own attitudes. I want this. In these twilight years… wanna set the tone. Go out on me own terms. A nice little championship run would definitely be a lovely way tae do just that.
Chrysalis: Awww aren’t you such a gentleman? Wanna give me my first loss.
She rolls her eyes and then throws up a playful thumbs down.
Chrysalis: This has actually been a really dope lil show today. Was there anything else you wanted to talk about before we go, Bruce? Maybe another event you want to promote, a special message for someone out there, shoutouts, Twitter promotion? Now’s your time to shine baby boy.
Bruce: Outside of tomorrow’s Splat! Triad Challenge event which I know everyone will be watching… have got a match at Christ Centred Wrestling’s Cornfield Combat on May 24th… might actually have championship implications on the line if I can beat a mysterious masked arsehole who cost me the last match there. The twins’re the size of pineapples now… gettin’ close tae welcoming our weans into the world soon. Shoutout tae my lovely wife Charity for bein’ a hell of a mother. Follow me on social media, if yer so inclined: @highlandermac72.
He smirks and flashes a peace sign, winking before he closes out of the call, dropping his screen from view. Almost simultaneously, Kieron’s feed statics and cuts out leaving Chrysalis to shake her head.
Chrysalis: What a co-host, leaving me high and dry after ducking my question. Anyway, it’s been real and I think Bruce definitely proved he was down to TALK THAT TALK...catch you guys next week!
The rookie closes out her camera as well, sending everything to black.
